Pavilion and back on pipe. Felt crappy. Couldn't get into pace, just choppy.  I think today was the last day for my Peregrine's.  I think after 500+ miles they deserve and honorable release!  They were a great pair of shoes to get me into minimalist shoes.  Loved them, but the cushioning just isn't there anymore.

Well, I have to say that this was one of the most fun races I have had in a long time. I wasn't in shape to PR and knew that going in. I didn't even run my fastest Ogden Marathon, but I ran a very smart race, and totally enjoyed it. I missed the gun because I was in the bathroom changing wet shoes out and vaselineing up. Jogged over to the race bag trailer as the race was getting started, even though I never heard any official gun go off. Last I heard was the two minute warning. I got stuck pretty far back behind the 4 hr pacer, but since I wasn't truly racing, I didn't freak, just started jogging and weaving through the crowds to the start line. Ended up weaving for a good two miles before I got into a space with a comfortable enough pace that was moving along.

Wanted to run the first half at 7:20-7:30 pace, and mostly held that, except for a few miles in the 7:30's.  Ran into a small group running together at around mile 7-8, and decided to stick with them for awhile.  They met my criteria for pacing.  Ran with them through about mile 15 and then picked up the pace with one of them.  Felt like I spaced out my GU consumption well with about 1/3 to 1/2 of a GU every 10k or so. Hit the canyon feeling fairly well, my right knee started to ache a bit, but I tried to ignore it and enjoy the river and scenery, as well as the company with Jon Moss.  Served me well, the knee took quite awhile to loosen up, but finally did as we came out of the canyon and hit the parkway.  Hit quite a few sub 7 miles through the canyon, which set me up nicely for a negative split marathon from half to half.

Probably would have died in the last 5k if it weren't for Jon pulling me along, so nice to have a running buddy for that much of the race.  Felt great about my finishing time. It's still hard to look at it when I know I have run so much faster in the past.  Just have to look at the training that I did to prepare for those marathons compared to this one, and there is no way I can't smile a bit about this one.  I've been trying to race like this for a long time, but it's so hard to hold back in the first half when you feel so good.  Glad I could relax and do it today.  Great run, and great fun even with the rain.

First half 1:36:37 (7:34, 7:23, 7:12, 7:24, 7:23, 7:28, 7:28, 7:17, 7:29, 7:33, 7:33, 7:26, 7:20)

Second half 1:33:46 (7:10, 7:30, 7:09, 7:10, 6:54, 7:05, 6:58, 6:53, 6:55, 6:29, 6:32, 6:43, 6:37)
